Aw, sweet. Looks like you had a sawfly invasion. I've noticed my hummers like to alight upon the same damage on my crabapple. Better view, I guess. Have a great weekend, Indie.
Best leaf substitute ever! I have a dead branch in my trumpet vine and in a locust and have been tempted to remove them, but the birds perch there all the time, so the twigs remain.
Love it! I noticed this morning one of the hummers was perched on a stem of tall Salvia. How it managed to sit there without bending the light stalk is beyond me. I love watching these creatures; their antics never fail to delight me.
Great photo!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!

ReplyDeleteYeah, it's interesting that they like to land there. Maybe trying to figure out if they can eat the caterpillars?
DeleteHa! Now if you can only get her to stay there until spring.

ReplyDeleteForget about leaves, absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the leaves?
ReplyDeleteBirch sawfly larvae ate them. Thankfully they didn't do too much damage (other than a few branches).
